Hey there!
I am a third-year PhD student at Ghent University in the Department of Public Health and Primary Care. My academic background is in Psychology and Global Mental Health, which I studied in the United Kingdom before beginning my doctoral research. My PhD focuses on intersectional and spatial inequalities in preventive healthcare uptake in Belgium, with a particular emphasis on cancer screening. I investigate ethno-racial disparities and use mixed methods to explore the mechanisms that shape these inequalities, including the role of neighbourhoods as social contexts influencing healthcare access and engagement.
Before starting my doctoral studies, I worked as an Assistant Psychologist in the UK and as a research assistant on projects evaluating mental health interventions and measurement tools in Zimbabwe. I am half Belgian and half Congolese, and have lived in Guinea-Bissau, Zimbabwe, India, Cambodia, and the United Kingdom. This international and multicultural background strongly informs my research interests and commitment to equity in health.
I joined Afromedica to bridge the gap between academic research and grassroots action, and to stay connected to community-driven initiatives. In doing so, I have found a home in Afromedica, joining a collective of motivated and thoughtful healthcare workers whose commitment to equality and diversity in health deeply resonates with my own values.
